The official dates for the 2018 Snipe Nationals are August 23 through August 26.  We are looking forward to four days of the best Snipe racing we have seen.  See the Notice of Race below.

 

NOTICE OF RACE

SNIPE CLASS INTERNATIONAL RACING ASSOCIATION USA

2018 US Snipe Nationals

 

 

 

ORGANIZING AUTHORITY:

The Green Lake Yacht Club and Snipe fleet 129 in co-operation with the Snipe Class International Racing Association USA.

 

  1. RULES
    1. The regatta will be governed by:
      1. The rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. (RRS)
      2. The SCIRA Rules of Conduct for Conducting National and International Championship Regattas (RoC)
      3. The Deed of Gift.
    2. The decision of the jury will be final in accordance with RRS 70.5.
    3. RRS Appendix P will apply.
    4. RRS 35 will be changed to provide that boats not finishing within 30 minutes after the first boat to finish will be scored “Did Not Finish” without a hearing.
    5. RRS 62.2 and 66 will be changed to shorten the time for requesting redress and for requesting that a hearing be re-opened on the last day of racing.
    6. RRS 30.3 will not be used.
    7. RRS 32.2 and 33 will be changed to limit course changes
    8. RRS 60.1(a) will be changed to restrict protest from boats for specific items on the NoR and SI.
    9. RRS 64.2 will be changed to compel the Jury/PC to abandon a race as required by RoC 18.
    10. If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

 

  1. ADVERTISING
    1. Advertising is permitted in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20 and SCIRA rules.
    2. Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.

 

  1. ENTRY AND ELIGIBILITY
    1. This regatta is open to SCIRA registered boats and Class Member skippers (and crews for National and International Championships) who are in good standing with SCIRA for the current year, subject to any Deed of Gift restrictions.
    2. No skipper or crew shall be eligible to enter any Class championship race unless:
      1. they possess and present a current Class Membership Card, or
      2. SCIRA-issued equivalent, or
      3. shows as current member in the SCIRA Official Online Database.
    3. Bow numbers are assigned at registration and it shall be each competitor’s sole responsibility to properly affix them in conformance with the instructions and to properly maintain them.

 

  1. FEES

                The cost of the regatta is $375.00 if received prior to July 20th, 2018 and shall include: meals, social activities, and T shirts for each boat. The fee if received after July 20th, 2018 is $425.

 

  1. SCHEDULE
    1. Registration shall take place on Wednesday August 22nd at 12:00pm till 8:00pm at the regatta headquarters location.
    2. Measurement shall take place on Wednesday August 22nd starting at 12:00pm till 8:00pm at the regatta headquarters location.

  1. MEASUREMENT
    1. Measurement will take place at regatta headquarters
    2. All boats shall produce a valid measurement certificate and are subject to measurement at any time at the reasonable discretion of the Class or Race Committee.
    3. All boats are required to have a current Class decal properly displayed.

 

  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
    1. The Sailing Instructions will be available via email and official event website or through SCIRA.
    2. Race Format: Twelve races are scheduled. The Race Committee may run fewer races at its discretion and may make up a race on Sunday if needed. There will be no more than three races held per day. In the event three races are held back to back, there will be a short break ON THE WATER between the second and third race of the day to allow for a bathroom break on club provided boats with facilities. On the final day of the regatta, the Warning Signal for the final race will not be made after 1:30pm unless the required three races have not been completed. If an additional race or races are needed to have three completed races, the Warning Signal for the last race may be made up to 2:00pm.

 

  1. VENUE
    1. Races will be sailed in the center part of Green Lake, with options to locate to either east or west end.

 

  1. COURSES
    1. The courses to be sailed are the Class approved courses for National Championship regattas as published in the current SCIRA Official Rulebook and SCIRA web site.

 

  1. SCORING
    1. The low Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A, will apply, modified according to SCIRA Deed of Gift.

 

  1. SUPPORT BOATS
    1. Support boats shall register, within the limits specified in 5.1 above, to the Organizing Committee that will assign an identification to be shown visible on the boat throughout the event.

 

  1. INSURANCE
    1. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $250,000 (SCIRA USA has no required value, it is the decision of the host club, $250,000 to $500,000 is average)> per incident or the equivalent.

 

  1. RADIO COMMUNICATION
    1. Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats.
    2. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

 

  1. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
    1. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.

 

  1. PRIZES

15.1        Prizes shall be awarded for positions 1st through 10th for both Skipper and Crew.

15.2        Perpetual trophies shall be awarded as follows:

  1. The Commodore Charles E. Heinzerling Trophy will be awarded to the winning skipper.
  2. The Portage Lakes Yacht Club Trophy will be awarded to the winning crew.
  3. The Slauson Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the second-place team.
  4. The Eleanor Williams Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the highest placing woman (skipper or crew).
  5. The Macklanburg-Duncan Trophy will be awarded to the Chairman of the Race Committee for the SCIRA USA National Championship.
  6. The National Secretary Trophy will be awarded to the SCIRA USA National Championship Regatta Chairperson.
  7. The Carolyn Nute Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the highest placing married couple.
  8. The Masters Trophy will be awarded to the highest placing Master skipper.
  9. The Masters Endurance Trophy will be awarded to the oldest skipper entered in the regatta

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS
    1.         The top two eligible US boats will qualify for the 2019 SCIRA Worlds Championship.
